Sabena Engineering has officially opened a brand-new 6,000 m² MRO hangar at Brussels Airport, delivered by Spantech in just four months of on-site construction — and in ten months total, including permitting, design, manufacturing, and site preparation. Designed for both military and civil aviation, the hangar will support the Belgian-Luxembourg A400M transport fleet and expand Sabena’s capacity to service wide-body aircraft for clients such as KLM and Ryanair.
This is now Belgium’s largest military-grade MRO hangar, built fast, built smart, and ready for action.
Despite a complex brief and tight timeline, Spantech delivered a fully operational facility equipped with a 40-ton vertical-lifting door system and high-performance heating. The hangar also includes a foam-based firefighting system, a compressed air network, high-capacity electrical distribution, and fire exhaust systems. The entire structure was built using Spantech’s modular construction approach, allowing for rapid assembly without compromising on performance or compliance.
Thanks to its expertise, Spantech guided the client through a full range of hangar options, including roof structures, MEP systems, door solutions and access points. This allowed Sabena to select the right configuration at the right cost for their specific needs.
The result: a strategic asset that meets the highest technical standards and underscores the value of fast, flexible infrastructure in an industry where downtime is not an option.
“This hangar is more than just a building, it’s a commitment to reindustrialising Europe and strengthening our long-term MRO capabilities,” said Stéphane Burton, CEO of Sabena Engineering. “With this new wide-body facility, we are creating jobs, expanding capacity, and building a future-ready aviation hub at the heart of Europe.”
Around 100 new jobs are expected to be created as part of this investment, which reinforces Sabena Engineering’s ambition to lead in both military and civil maintenance services.
Spantech was selected for its ability to deliver technically demanding hangars on short timelines; a key requirement in the defense and MRO sectors. With over 25 years of experience, the company offers ready to go, turnkey hangar solutions that are modular, EASA-compliant, and engineered for performance and circularity.
Whether it’s a narrow-body bay or a multi-bay wide-body complex, Spantech helps clients get operational faster, with full control over schedule, cost, and quality.
