Spantech was commissioned by the Municipality of Utrecht to design and construct the temporary sports hall named “Tempo” at Sportpark Loevenhoutsedijk. This modular facility was developed to address the growing need for sports infrastructure in the city, providing a versatile space for various sports activities. The hall is expected to be in use until September 2033, serving as a key asset in reducing the shortage of indoor sports facilities in Utrecht.
• Flexible Design: The sports hall includes a multi-purpose court with specific markings for multiple sports, including three basketball courts, four volleyball courts, and nine badminton courts, making it suitable for a wide range of sports activities.
• Adaptability: As a modular construction, the hall’s design allows for easy adaptation and potential relocation, reflecting Spantech’s commitment to creating sustainable and flexible sports facilities.
• Rapid Deployment: Utilizing Spantech’s modular construction techniques, the sports hall was quickly assembled, ensuring a swift delivery that met the city’s urgent need for additional sports facilities.
Sustainability Features
Sporthal Tempo exemplifies Spantech’s commitment to sustainability by being a Nearly Energy Neutral Building (BENG). The hall is equipped with 115 solar panels, contributing significantly to its energy efficiency. In its strategic design, the sports hall was intentionally built adjacent to an existing building, allowing athletes to utilize the existing locker room facilities, reducing the need for additional resources. Furthermore, when the sports hall is eventually dismantled, a large portion of the building materials can be reused, reinforcing Spantech’s dedication to circular construction and reducing the environmental impact of temporary structures.
The construction of Tempo represents a significant step toward the Municipality of Utrecht’s goal to provide one sports hall for every 15,000 residents by 2030, as part of its strategy to accommodate the city’s growing population. By adding this facility, Spantech has helped to slightly alleviate the city’s current shortage of indoor sports halls, making a valuable contribution to the local community’s sports infrastructure.
